À l’instar du Canada, bien d’autres pays se sont dotés d’un mécanisme d'assurance-dépôts pour protéger les consommateurs et encourager la stabilité de leur système financier. De fait, l’assurance-dépôts constitue aujourd’hui un élément essentiel du système financier de nombreux pays, et plus d’une centaine de pays possèdent leur propre régime d'assurance-dépôts ou prévoient en établir un.
